Travelling to America this week and need to sort out being able to make calls and such when I’m there. Does anyone know what the options are? Do I just rent a SIM card and put it into my current phone? Rent a phone? Not sure how it works at all or where to get, would really appreciate any help!

Not sure if you sorted it out yet. The answer is it depends on your phone if it has 4g or 5g. Our network doesn't work in usa. If its a smartphone its fine and you can use your sim if it has roaming. When I travel I use my three sim on the smartphone. The regular dumb phones dont work unless you have the quinn.

DH went a few weeks ago. He added a roaming package to his regular sim which allowed him to make calls/texts whilst there. Although I know people who just use watsapp instead.
The main issue he had was that they use a different network or something so his regular phone wouldn't work, and he had to borrow a different phone instead to use.

Where are you staying? The sims RCUK have have very poor connection in Monsey and Lakewood, in NYC they work better but not perfect. I had a very hard time getting out of JFK as nothing was working.
If using a dumb phone, Kez rent phones I think verizon.

I just used an esim in another country, not USA, but it worked great, and it has lots of other countries on.

App I used is called airalo.

My brother helped me set it up but I don't think it was complicated to do.

I don't think threes roaming plan is as good as it used to be.

Many roaming plans are very limited, if you use a lot of data you may find yourself running out of data quickly.

If you have a dumb phone you will need a new phone to use in the USA.

Some are disastrous in NYC, especially indoors.

Mobile Unlimited hire phones too. Nokia ones that look like the c2-01 but work in NY
