Question: what do people do about a contractor getting into a house to do work, and locking up when he leaves for the day, if the owners are not living in that state, and they just changed the keys.

People use a lock box with keys for workers to open the housenand lock up. Can whoever has the keys now put them in a lock box?

Put up a shabbos combination lock for them to use. When you move in, you change the combination number.
