My son took his 1st steps (walked abt 2 feet) beginning Dec.
How long should I wait till I buy him shoes?
I'm getting mixed messages: neighbor: he walks so well, go this week. Vs. don't go till walks really well how do I know?

Thanks for your input!

Walking for a month is probably good. The problem is that shoes are hard to get used to and makes walking harder in the beginning, so if your baby is not a good walker, you’re not going to be able to judge whether it’s a good shoe for him.

Get soft soled 'barefoot' type shoes as soon as there are going to be occasions where he will be walking on a surface that seems unsafe without shoes. But keep him barefoot most of the time for as long as he wants and is able.

Depends on the kid. I never waited because I was too excited to get the kids their first pair. Then by one kid I decided enough negligence because of my emotions I'm waiting. I waited 2 months. The kid didn't not stop falling down. I decided 2 months is mong enough. Within hours of him walking in shoes he stopped falling. This kid needed the support.
In bp I love Di Rubio. I've been using them exclusively for years.

It's normal for toddlers to fall, and best for them to be barefoot when practical.

The soonest, I'd say, is one week from when they are exclusively walking to get around and not switching back and forth bet crawling and walking anymore.

I usually wait a few months.
And then once I get them shoes they only wear it when walking outdoors for a few months and indoor is barefoot

I would probably wait a couple of weeks until they're walking more than they're crawling, then buy. I would still allow them to be barefoot as much as possible as it is better for their development to have that time.

ETA, in the summer I would probably wait longer as it's warmer and they can go barefoot, but in the winter, I would want them to have shoes sooner.

Get shoes when you're ready for the kid to walk outdoors, to protect his feet from the sidewalk and the nasty stuff one encounters there and on the grass. In the house he doesn't need them. It's better for his feet to get used to being one with the surface on which he's walking.
