.. if you have a small table?

Usually I'll just plate up for DH and the kids but I'm having guests this week and not sure if that's weird

I put it in a serving bowl on the table and everyone takes what they want with a serving spoon.

I don't have room for everything on the table. Cold cuts, salad, schnitzel and also cholent

Then I would suggest setting up a "buffet" on a nearby surface. Bring in a folding table if you have to.

Family style. Serving bowl passed around the table

I plate the cholent and Kugel, but bring platters for chicken and cold cuts.

I give the little kids and then the adults and then the teens last. This way it cools for the younger but the older still get it hot.

I've plated for guests in the past, don't think it's weird. I'll ask if they want and then give them a plate. Meat, salads and sides are all center plates.

You can serve it in small bowls that sit on top of each person's larger plate, leaving room for them to pile on the other options.

Thanks! Good to know I'm not the only one.

That's a cool idea, like a caterer would do.

I don't own anything like that so can't do it this Shabbos (although I could buy small disposable bowls) but maybe it's something worth investing in for the future

If you have a large folding table, make make a buffet and everyone can take what they want?

Especially something like chulent, where I want to be able to choose which components and how much I want.

I also don't like when you serve me the main dish. (If you do it that way ok, but I would rather not have it that way). Not everyone eats, barley, rice, potatoes, other vegetables in the cholent. (I once was by a young couple and she served us the food and they prepared chulent with Tomatoes.). I might not like if your Chulent is sweet, and you serve me a whole plate. Let me take and see if it's to my taste so no need to waste. Great idea about the Buffet.
