Thanks everyone who is not AI.

It's just tough. We don't want the kids to know because it made them anxious last time. We just want to subtly cut back and figure things out. Hopefully it will be a short period of unemployment. If it isn't, then we need to figure it out plus the older kids will notice.

I am just so overwhelmed. I wish people would invite us for Shabbos so I didn't have to worry about food.
And now I need to make camp plans. My husband could have a job. IYH! And we will need camp. Or we could be in a worse position because savings were used up to pay for food and now we need to pay for camp.

If you're eligible for medicaid you won't be able to get a marketplace subsidy afaik.

Can you look into cobra options? By law I believe that has to be available. Not necessarily cheap at all but worth finding out about.

And sending hugs, and wishes that this will be a short term nisayon.

I would sign up for camp

IMH your husband will have a job by then, and if he doesn't you can always pull out and pay the fine.

Having no camp will be a disaster if you both are working

IYH!! I don't think there is a fine, I think it's pay all. But I guess we will have to find the money even if he doesn't have a job...

Look on Macher USA for job listings
Your husband should update his resume and email it / follow up - to every company that hires people with his advanced degree within a 2 hour drive from your home
Can he do some freelance work meanwhile?

Looked on the exchange for health insurance. My kids qualify for medicaid but they can't see their specialists on it. So can't get their specialty meds. Banging head
We would have to wait for it to be active, then call for an appointment for a primary. Then a referral to a specialist. Then get authorization for meds...
At wits end At wits end

And I can't get on the exchange because my work gives some coverage even though its absolutely awful.

How does it work to pay for private expensive plan for kids and then have Medcaid because of income? How does it work in terms of having Medicaid cover what private wont?!?
