9 people in the family.

My big grocery order is about $400-500
Then there are small grocery runs, and food we get from Costco, and other stores.
I’m trying to figure this out. 6 of my kids eat about 2-3 packs of snack a day in school or at home.
That’s 15 snacks a day times 6. For a total of about 90 to 100 snacks a week. The cheapest heimish hechsher snacks out there are $.25 on a major sale. So that alone can add up to $25.00 plus.

My butcher order is approximately $130 a week- I can get it down if I shop meat in bingo but so far I’m not.

Fish for shabbos can easily be $45, bingo does make it cheaper but I don’t want to go there every week. (These spontaneous purchases add up)

Wine is up to $30.

We drink lots of water and order a few cases a week from Costco, along with lots of vegetables for munching, salads etc…

I buy cookies mostly, I guess baking them would bring down the cost.

We’re a family of 3 (one toddler). I estimated around 150 but it’s likely a bit more. I serve either chicken, ground meat or fish (flounder or salmon) every night. I don’t know exact amounts because some weeks if something is on sale I’ll stock up. I live in Brooklyn.
ETA I would guess more like 200.

We're a family of 5, and it's around $150 a week plus. A $400 stock up bulk order each month so I guess that's $250 a week.

Dinner is almost always fleshigs because we have dairy and egg allergies. Don't qualify for any government programs

Family of 6, kids ages 2-12, in NY

I would estimate about 325 -350 a week.

I don't think I could go much less then that, maybe by $50 if Im really careful or run around for more sales, or only eat homemade stuff (like make my own cookies the time instead of the packaged ones and etc)

We eat fleshigs twice a week (3 if you count leftovers.... we make a bigger cholent and a big more of the sides so we have enough for supper. Cheaper then a supper from scratch)

Are u on government food stamps or the like?
How many kids in the family?
Do u mk a protein (chicken, meat, or fish) every nt for dinner?

Just curious:)

We have food stamps. I'm feeding 13 people Kah. Yes I make a protein every single day. If I would guesstimate I would day aprox $650 a week. This doesn't include the protein. It does include breakfast and fruits/vegetables.

That's very good management, would you mind sharing what you typically serve for meals in a day?

Me, my husband and a toddler - we spend $750 a month so that’s $187 a week. We have cheap chicken or meat for supper every night, shop at Aldi/walmart for everything other than chalav yisrael milk, yogurt, cheese etc and kosher meat.

Why do we keep having the same thread over and over?

$350ish. 3 adults, 3 teens, 1 younger kid, frequent shabbos guests. Teens and kid get lunch in school. I aim for a protein every night but that can be scrambled eggs, and sometimes it's even just macaroni and cheese because frankly I can't keep up. We probably average 1-2 fleishig nights a week plus an additional night of shabbos leftovers. Plus shabbos night and day which I guess makes a total of 4-5 days a week with one fleishig meal.

How is this possible? Maybe pre inflation it could've worked, but now?

Definitely. Wine alone I’d spend $15 a bottle. That’s $100 saving a month

I have the same sized family. My husband is a foodie. I still don’t think we spend over 200.00 a week when it’s just us. And I’m not very budgeted when it comes to food. We both work full time and buy what we need and don’t run around finding deals. If we have guests we’ll buy a larger piece of meat and a nicer wine. There are some foods that I have ingrained in me not to buy because they are pricey like fruits and vegetables that are already cut up.

I by mistake thought you wrote a month and I picked 900+. I definitely do not spend 900 a month.

Honestly, I was pretty surprised myself when I calculated the average for 2023, but that's what it was. (actually lower, but I added a bit because I probably missed something).
I think it's because of some of these factors:
no cholov yisrael costs. little kids. naturally not big spenders. walmart-type prices for the foods that can be found there. lack of kosher store: so if I finish the case of chicken cutlets that I bought in the last bulk order, I just don't have chicken cutlets for a few months-I can't just go buy more-so we'll have maybe more eggs instead, let's say. there's no such thing as kosher takeout, barely any premade foods at all. also, any challah, cakes...are homemade.
possible inaccuracies: could be something was missed in my calculation, but I do think my adjustment accounts for that. also, if I have only the total for a shopping trip that's more than food (let's say walmart food+toys in one order) then I sometimes include those in my total and sometimes not, and hope that it evens out. I do think my spending has increased gradually throughout the year, so maybe at this point I'm really spending $150 or so per week.

Wow! I wonder what I’m doing wrong. We’re a family of 6 and I spend at least 600 dollars a week on groceries. Shabbos alone is about 300 dollars!

I can’t wrap my head around. This. But if you can easily afford your expenditures then more power to you
