Your co workers are not all so nice to work with. Some are down right awful.
The company will be closing in a years time. Boss already told us all this info.
Staffing is always an issue. More staff is needed for the tasks at hand but the boss is, for some reason, not able to find people who want to work here. So what each employee has to do now is way more than they really were highered for.
Salary is not so great either.

But it is a job. And to not have to look for something, even for an additional year, when I have no formal training in anything, might be priceless.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't.
You will have to look for something in a year anyway, and who knows if the job market will be better. Also, there is no potential for growth at your current place, so all you're doing is putting off the inevitable with no gain in an environment which you don't like.

Life's too short to stay at a job you hate.

I would look while I stay,
as soon as you find something better which is more long term, you can give your notice and then leave.
In the meantime, you're right, if you need the income, then you might as well stay,
also it looks better on resumes not to have breaks in employment.

Why would you wait until you're unemployed to look for a job? Start looking now and leave as soon as you find something. The unpleasant work environment should be even more of an incentive to get started on the job hunt. It can take a long time, and you're a more desirable hire when you're currently employed vs unemployed.

How is not looking for something priceless?
It's easier to look for a job while you are stil employed.
And you have a year to look so no pressure to take something that may not be a good fit.

I would look for a new job and leave the old one as soon as I found another option.

Keep the current job while you start searching for a new job, now.

You shouldn’t be starting in a year, it can take time to find the right job and now you have the opportunity to do it while still employed with zero pressure (up to a year)
