I cook mine in a crockpot and I find that it's never cooked in enough... seems five or so hours on high setting before Shabbos isn't enough.

What time do you put your crockpot on?

In a crockpot?

I want to try this but not sure if it will be too cooked in by Shabbos day.

Though as of now it's always not cooked in enough.

My crockpot has high, low & auto, but I have a feeling that the high is more like low and the low is more like keep warm.

So I guess I will start with high and then turn to low once it looks fully cooked.

I cook it all day Thursday. Serve for supper. Refrigerate overnight and rewarm Friday afternoon.

I put my chulent up on Thurs night and keep it on low the whole time and it's perfect and delicious for shabbos lunch.
Different crockpots cook differently on the same settings so you do have to find one that will work for you.

I don't use frozen meat, but also put mine up raw right before I light. On low on crockpot. Perfection. (Though obviously nobody eats any until Shabbos lunch).

If we want to eat before shabbos, I put it up Friday AM on high for 5 hours, then turn to low
Otherwise put it up an hour before shabbos on low (if there's time I'll put it on high for an hour and then turn it down)
Could be different brands have different settings, but on my crockpot keep low = food poisoning for meat overnight

“Another option is to allow the cholent to remain totally raw until right before candle-lighting time, and only then turn on the cooking mechanism. Doing so will permit leaving the cholent on the crock-pot even though the base is not covered with aluminum foil at all.”

I put the crackpot up Thursday midday, I put potatoe kugel In Friday midday, it perfect on shabbos morning. I use the cholent bags to keep the pot clean & cooking time is longer with it.
