My child has sudden loss of weight (anorexic looking) unexplained diarrhea withspecjs of blood, hemorrhoids, inability to eat, nausea. I am at ER second time this week.

Would you allow ct scan with contrast. Or weight for MRI.
For mri need to travel to different location and get admitted and wait longer.

They are trying to Dx infection in addition to other things.

Why not?
If that's what's recommended, why would you not?

Is the contrast by mouth, IV, or both? All are okay and necessary for accurate diagnosis. If getting IV contrast make sure the child is given IV fluids after to flush the contrast out of the system.

If the child can tolerate oral, IV and oral together is best. Oral is best for GI related issues. You don’t want to miss anything. Only issue with oral is you have to wait a little. It’s worth waiting and not missing or having to do another scan.

My kid needed an MRI with contrast of his brain. BH all normal.
If needed, I do things like this.
I ask what are the alternatives and what are the consequences of not doing these things. If a kid is sick enough to go to ER this often and has all these issues- I definitely would do it. You don't want to CV miss something critical.

Unless he has a pre-existing kidney issue, there shouldn't be a problem with it for a one time thing.

Thankyou everyone
She got ct scan. Waiting for results. Please pray for my daughter. My heart is aching. How does a perfectly healthy child goes from healthy to ill in blink. They are talking about admitting to hospital.

Said tehillim. Davening that you find out the cause and it's something easily resolvable and wishing her a refuah sheleima.

According to my son's GI, kids don't get hemorrhoids, they come from years of constipation etc in adults. We thought my son had hemorrhoids Bec he was bleeding when he pooped, turns out it was skin tags and he got diagnosed with Crohn's. Do you have a GI? The mucus and blood and diarrhea and weight can be Crohn's/colitis. It can also be other things.
As far as contrast, my son had an MRI with contrast after drinking some sort of drink.
Another child had IV contrast for MRI of the brain. A number of times.
I read to give lots of water after. All was ok. I hope you get answers soon and that your daughter has a refuah shelaima!

My son had all the same symptoms. It was Crohns. I second the hemorrhoid thing- regular doctor thought it was hemorrhoids but it’s really unusual for a kid. Probably skin tags.
Are you in a hospital with a good GI department?

Did they do bloodwork for anemia, C- reactive protein, sedimentation rate? Other inflammatory markers? Stool samples? That’ll rule in or out Crohn’s? Are you by local ER or an excellent hospital?

I would skip the contrast. They can see whatever they need to without.
