We have been to lot and lots of therapists for my son. I myself bh have learnt some valuable parenting tips and how to keep myself calm 99% of the time. My son is now 6 years old his emotional regulation is getting much worse. It's scary to see. Bh my husband and I know how to stay calm and grounded. He can be dangerous at times and he really is such a special boy and doesn't mean it at all. I'm scared! He can be very aggressive towards his siblings and we physically restrain him. He tells me he can't control himself and he really does feel bad. What has helped your child? This happens time to time it isn't constant and daily at this extreme. What can we do as parents? He tells me he wants to be good!!

Same boat so far nothing.. still looking.
I do think that the parent has tremendous power to help if you are the 'container of calm' when they are overwhelmed by their unregulatedness it helps 1000x.
I did find Dr Becky to be very helpful also

Diet. I know, one of those parents...
I'm not one of those parents. I resisted this idea for years. You can imagine how hard it is to take away a favorite food from a dysregulated kid! But when I finally did it, it made an immediate significant difference.

All ultra processed foods - which is most of what he was willing to eat. No added colors. Limited sugar. No candy except chocolate. We even removed healthy foods that had triggered his eczema in the past (eggs and dairy). We still allow things like cheerios or crackers, but nothing worse.

Please, skip the books until he's capable of selfcontrol. Guilt and shame won't do him any good at this point.

What’s worked for me was dealing with my own internal issues, including attachment issues. (DH too)
I was great at acting calm, saying and doing all the right things, but my child is super sensitive and was picking up on my issues beneath the surface.
I’m in therapy now and have seen a huge difference in my sons behavior. It’s honestly terrifying to see the extent of the impact my own internal emotional state was having on him and my other kids, though to a lesser degree.
DH is in his own therapy too and it’s been very enlightening. And expensive lol. (Officially we both have complex trauma, I have adhd, but we are very high functioning and you’d never know)
