my son changes his socks everyday and sleeps with bare feet. his sneaker is the 'breathable' type. His feet really smell bad.

Did you smell his breathable sneakers? They're more likely the problem than his fit.
Also let him trim and scrub his toe nails. They can cause an odor.

We had that at one point. This powder really worked! They also sell it in some of the local hosiery stores

These socks!!!! I think its the only thing that really helped my son. It doesnt cure the problem but at least the house didnt reek from his feet. It absorbs the sweat.
But these socks dont last forever. Replaced them after a year when I realized it wasnt helping anymore. The sock gets worn out and feels stiff after the dryer after many uses.

Also I would suggest that he washes his feet and especially the toes with head and shoulders shampoo. It sounds weird but it works. Instead of using soap, davka head and shoulders and together with changing socks every day and airing out his shoes should resolve the issue. Also, you gotta understand that he's going through puberty. That has a lot to do with it.

My son has/had this. It was a bacterial growth. The doctor gave him prescription cream. It took 3 months to clear. If he doesn't maintain it comes back, so he uses the foot cream a few times a week.

Thank you!
I will start with new socks (just ordered these) and remind him to wash his feet with soap in the shower well, and I'll see if there's an improvement. If that doesn't work will try the other suggestions.
Thanks everyone!

Also I heard that it’s good for someone like that to have at least two or more pairs of shoes so they wear each one less times per week.
Don’t know if it actually works
