We are having a debate over how to spell Tehilla. Here are the choices:
A) Tehilla
B) Tehila

The difference is over one L or two. Please help save our debate Smile!

I spell my daughter’s Tehilla. One L just looked weird to me.

I spell my daughter’s name with one L but I find that most people automatically spell it with two, including her teachers every year.

I used one, and people definitely get it wrong a lot, but to me, two Ls looks like Te-HILL-a (like the word “hill”)

That’s funny. I spell it with two Ls because to me one L looks like Te-Hye-la (like the word, Hi how are you).
It’s a beautiful name op.

The correct spelling is one l because it’s one lamed… that being said, I know someone who spelled it with one originally and went back to the hospital to change it on the birth certificate cuz she said it looked weird

I spell my daughter's name with 2 Ls but I've definitely seen both ways. It's really just a matter of preference in my opinion.

No, that's not necessarily correct. The lamed has a dagesh chazak, which indicates a doubling of the l-sound.
Although today, in modern pronunciation, both transliterations are fine. A beautiful name whichever spelling you choose!

I remember checking imamother when I named my daughter this. We went with Tehila. Felt it was the simplest and ppl would be less like to pronounce the heela part was Hill-a. Then there’s a question of with a yud or without and that I was told by a תהלה to do תהילה bc her kesuba had to be redone!

And my friend had the other way around... so I spell my Tehila without the yud (which also mixes up her teachers) because that's how it's written in Tehillim.

I was thinking English to do two Ls and for the Hebrew to include the yud.
Thoughts?
