I'm trying my hand at homemade yogurt, when it comes our of the oven it's a perfect yogurt consistency however when I add vanilla extract and sugar it becomes very runny. How do I prevent that from happening?
I mixed it with unsweetened yogurt and then let the liquid out through a cheese cloth to thicken it up. Problem is I'm losing a lot of volume this way.... I ended up with half the amount....

Try adding dry milk powder to the milk at the start of the process. In general, homemade yogurt is thinner and more tart than the commercial stuff.

I'd rather not add stuff to it... when the yogurt is ready it's a perfect consistency... it's only after flavoring that it becomes thin
