I remember reading a few lists on this site last year...

I'm looking for a list of the bare minimum - for a friend who is making Pesach for the first time.

(not the list with the extra Kitchen Aid, micro-planer, etc.)

If anyone could post what you think are the "Must Haves" I would greatly appreciate it.

is she kashering her oven, stove top etc?

I think you can get kitchen sets from places like macys which have all the basic kitchen utensils, that is probably a good idea.

also what are her minhagim? is she making everything from scratch? buying lots of ready made stuff? plannig to bake cakes? I have so much stuff, but a) I cook for a lot of people and b) I make everything myself.

That gadget that cores and slices an apple with one move!

Also, a crockpot / slowcooker is great for when you all go out Chol Hamoed and come back to yummy meat and potato dinner cooking!

Bare minimum?

Seder plate
matzo cover
cup for Elijah
small wine cups are nice, but you can use plastic if necessary
Bowl for dipping
Corkscrew (PLEASE don't forget that!!)

1 frying pan, 1 large pot, 1 small pot for meat
1 frying pan, 1 small pot milk
2 cutting boards (meat, milk)
2 good knives (meat, milk)
1 set meat dishes with enough settings for the seder, if at home
Skip the milk plates and use paper
Inexpensive silverware (milk, meat -- Amazing Savings has good ones)
A couple of coffee mugs
Use foil pans for baking, etc until you figure out what you really need
A few spatulas and wooden spoons

Something to cover counters, tables, etc.

New dish drainers
new stopper for sinks
something to hold sponges
Potholders
Kitchen towels

We use a set of plastic shelves instead of cleaning out all of our cupboards. Highly recommended!

Tea kettle (or just use a pot)
Blech

Sure, things like food processors and blenders are nice, but not really necessary for one week of the year. Ditto water urn, even a coffee maker. You can add things as the years go on.

Don't forget the feather and candle.

Okay, I realize people use a lot of eggs for Pesach, but 240 eggs in one week? shock
And is that for real? 60 pounds of ground meat? Are you people bathing in it or eating it?

Okay, I hear you on the eggs even though I still think that's a lot. It's 30 eggs per day! And I guess I just don't make those kinds of cakes. I don't know though b/c I've never made the whole Pesach with lots of company. But 60 lbs. of ground meat? Anyone really use that?

I have the bare minimum and manage just fine with:
-good set of stainless steel pots
-really good Meat knife
-immersion blender
-cheap set of 6 ladles, spatulas...
-can opener
-peeler
-electric burner (we do not Kasher our stove)
-crock pot
We use plastic cutlery, plates, cups, aluminum pans for mixing bowls, etc.
(We are a small family so far.)
If we would have a self-clean oven, I would buy a hand-held mixer for baking.
Again, BARE minimum.

And we have sink liners and counter liners. We line the backsplash and oven/range with extra heavy duty foil and masking tape. Fridge gets extra heavy duty foil and refrigerator liners as well. We usually buy a new broom and pan. And new kitchen hand towels.

Just buy 10 dozen and see if you need more... I say buy a little and keep adding more. It's not SO much cheaper to buy cases.

Just don't forget that you can't buy eggs on Pesach, because the chicken may have gotten chometz.
Better to overbuy.

Not everybody holds that. We buy eggs on Pesach from Kosher stores where everything has a Hechsher.

you don't need both meat and milk pots. We have just meat pots and use disposables for milk. (we don't use cheese anyway, so its just for drinking milk or the kids have bananas and milk)

if you want to make potato kugels a small food processor, but you can manage without.

we dont have matza-brei:(

if ur making most of the meals at home a food processor is a BIG help, during the year I manage without one but for pesach it is essential with all the kugels and also if u get with a juicer attachment if u prefer 2 make fresh juice.
