Today, my former principal from TAG, Rav Moshe Weitman was niftar.
It brought back to me, something which I heard from him probably 16-17 years ago at a TAG reunion here in Israel. Rabbi Weitman z"l gave an excellent dvar Torah. The one and only thing I remember from that dvar Torah was that he talked about how a Jew should never feel "comfortable" in his level of yiddishkeit and should always be striving for more. I remember how that made an impression on me and as you can see, it stayed with me till this day. So much so, that I have been striving and climbing since then.
Baruch Dayan Emes.

BDE....
Yes, I learned this too...in fact, I think the idea is that if one isn't moving up, one is chas v'shalom moving down...

I've heard this general idea many times but somehow it made such an impact coming from him, who I hadn't seen in years! Maybe it was the timing as well. I was an older single, hanging with a fairly modern crowd. Something in me made me put "spirituality" at the top of my wish list for a husband. B"H, cause I found it.

interesting - I was thinking about this concept just the other day ... how easy it is to fall into a "forgetful" routine if we don't push even to do the little things that keep us spiritual ...

I heard this:

Judaism is like a bicycle.

If it is difficult, it's a sign that you're going uphill.
And if it is easy, it's a sign that you're going downhill.
And if you try and stay in the same place, you fall off.

and... from Rebbetzin Tehilla Jaeger... learning Torah is the fuel that keeps us going up. If we don't give ourselves enough fuel, then we won't continue our uphill travel for too long.

Many people stay at a similar level all their life. Now, I'm sure they must work on their middos and behaviour, but really frumkeit wise in fact most FFB I can think of (that aren't FTB) do "as they were raised".

Ruchel, I think we're all talking about spiritual, personal growth here... middos and behavior and not about taking on mitzvos or chumrahs.
