Would you install a gas or electric oven stovetop in a pesach kitchen?

I have been thinking of installing a cheap oven/stove top in my basement to help me when it comes to cooking for pesach.

We had a few quotes and I'm curious what you ladies think is more financially reasonable as well as safer.

We would have to run a gas line across the basement which would cost roughly $1,000.00, since we have to bust some holes in the ceiling, patch and paint, but once it is installed it is pretty cheap to run.

We would have to change out some electric sockets to make them into 220V to accommodate an electric oven. That would cost roughly $300.00, but it costs more to run.

Keep in mind this would be used very rarely - only in the weeks before pesach. It would also be in my basement which is primarily the kids playroom. Is one safer than the other? What makes the most sense financially in the long run?

sorry I voted before reading your post so my vote may not have been so relevant. Anyways I don't think gas stoves with pilot lights are being sold anymore.

The stoves we are looking into do not have pilot lights, but electric starters.

I'm just wondering if spending the extra 700.00 now is justified. Am I really going to spend more than that in the long run?

For only one week of the year I would get an electric.

I actually wouldn't even need to use it on Y"T itself. By then my upstairs kitchen will be totally kosher for pesach. This stove would just be used before Y"T to help me get a head start on cooking (meaning when the kids are still in school).

Oh, right. But if you or someone else ever did want to use it for Pesach, it'd be hard.
