I want to make chulent to have for Friday night. I have done it when shabbos started very late and I just put it up very early in the morning and it comes out good. Now that shabbos starts so early, when should I put it up- still on Friday morning or late Thirsday night? And if I put it up on Thursday night do I leave it on high overnight? low? put it up earlier and leave it on high and switch to low before bed? Any advice would be great!

Put it up in a crockpot before you go to bed on Thursday night.

I would say, put it in the morning on high if you want it well done.
I've made plenty of things in the crockpot during the week. And I only put it in the morning, it's fine by dinner. It's usually like 3-4 hours on high or 6-8 hours on low for crockpot dinners that I've seen. So, if you put it on high in the morning, it will be more than done.

Awl right, I've gotta confess my dirty secret. I sometimes freeze cholent (no potatoes, beans and barley/wheatberries) left over from shabbat, defrost and serve the following shabbat dinner Friday. We sometimes do have that Friday night cholent craving too...

I always put up my cholent early Friday morning. Temp on crock pot about 400. My kids eat some around 3:30 -4:00. At that time I lower the crockpot and add whatever it needs such as more water or seasoning.
