Well there's royal icing & there is fondent.

I like the taste of the icing better, but I never do them neat enough to be happy w/ the results.
I did cookies w/ fondent & they came out gorgeous. If you are a beginner I suggest doing fondent.

Most cookies don't take to rolled fondant well; poured fondant is more likely. Or royal icing, which is piped on.

With the icing? I know it's not good to freeze fondant, what about royal icing?

I think royal icing should be fine frozen, but I would google that question to be sure.

You can cover cookies quite well with fondant and its easier than royal icing. color the fondant with coloring, then roll out the fondant. cut the fondant with same cookie cutter shape used for the cookie. make the fondant slightly wet and place on cookie.

Beautiful!! I wouldn't make those alef beis ones though with fondant. Royal icing is better.
