I really hope someone can answer me soon, bec. I am making my cholent for Shabbos now and trying to finish e/t before DS wakes up from his nap!
I just realized I am out of barley for the cholent... I am making rice for tonight so don't want to put that in, but can I put Kasha? I thought I read a thread somewhere here about that, but now I can't find it. Do you think it'd taste good and/or be a good texture?
TIA!

I've made kasha cholent - comes out great.
sauteiing onion - adding whatever meat, chicken, bones (or if pareve, lots of onions)
garlic spices,
and kasha
make sure you have enough water, add more if necessary before shabbos.
very comforting on cold shabbos.
didn't use beans with kasha at same time, but have used potatoes.

Thanks bfg! Being that I already put e/t else in the pot- including beans, I hope it'll be okay with the Kasha. I suppose I can technically go out and borrow barley from a neighbor, but it is windy and rainy out and totally not in the mood!
I appreciate the reply and I'll let you know if it came out good- or even edible!
