A vegetable napoleon makes a beautiful presentation plated. There are lots of recipes and photos if you do a search online. Here's one plated very nicely: http://www.flickr.com/photos/a.....6762/

Cold soups - I make honeydew soup, cantalope soup, strawberry soup (although this takes lots of t ime becuase you end up cheecking tons of strawberries), gazpacho, vicchysoise...always a hit

Also, sometimes I make regular salad but put some good deli in it - I dress it and then platter individually.

There's a Nish Nosh salad recipe on here that's really good, just search for it. I make it and it's always a hit.

I like the cold soup idea. I started making this delicious fruit soup with cherries, blueberries, nectarines or peaches, and grapes.

you can also serve a small salad in an eggroll wrapper "bowl" I ve made this b4, just spray with pam sprinkle some onion or garlic powder, hang them over cans or something wider if you have and backe for maybe 5 minutes, then you fill them with salad when you serve. just make sure to make a few extras bc they are very delicate and may crack when you handle them

Pastrami Noodle Salad

Angel hair pasta
cut up pastrami (or deli meat of your choice)
cut up lettuce

Mix together.

dressing:
3/4 C Mayo
1/2 C Sugar
1/4 C Vinegar
1/4 C Water
salt
pepper

Mix dressing together pour of salad.

This salad is amazing, when I was first told about it I thought it sounded strange - it's delicious DH loves it!
Everyone I serve it to can't get enough...

Enjoy!

Individual quiches!

For the crust, use a roll of puff pastry, cut into squares, roll thin and put into muffin tins (the jumbo-size muffin tins work best). Fill with your favorite quiche filling. (we serve milchiks, so I do eggs, spinach, grated yellow cheese, cream/milk and seasonings)

In the KBD short on time there's a recipe for individual spinach salami quiches. I've made them a few times- always a hit! Also, in all the KBD cookbooks there's a whole section of appetizers, a lot of which don't involve fish.

Thanks for all the great suggestions! In the end I went online (as usual) and found this recipe for angel hair pasta salad which sounded yummy, so I made that this week-

but I certainly have some great ideas for the future.
Good Shabbos everyone!

Chicken wan tons
deli roll
home made sushi (vegetables only)
Grilled chicken or meat salad

We almost never eat fish so I love having fun with appetizers.
I'm drawing a blank on the other stuff that I make.

Will you share the recipe for chicken wan tons? It sounds so yum!

In the summer I also love cold soups - carrot and mint is my current favourite.
Melon balls with a mint vinaigrette (6 tbsp olive oil, 2 tbsp vinegar, 2 tbsp finely chopped mint, 1 tsp honey, whisk it all together with a stick blender) - can be served in individual bowls or wine glasses. It looks lovely with different colour melons.
Pesto stuffed mushrooms
Individual pesto and tomato tarts
Chicken wings - always a hit
Individually plated chicken basil salad or other chicken salads.

I actually just served this salad on Succos and made eggroll wrapper bowls to serve it in. Was a huge hit! I also rarely make fish as an appetizer as it never goes over well. I'll usually make avocado eggrolls, chicken salad, sushi salad, and those KBD chicken wontons
