when I got married my husband introduced me to browning sauce. chefs use it to darken food and bring out flavor. you can buy it in the supermarket and put it in chulent and it brings out flavor and looks really nice and brown.

well I added paprika, chili powder and some ketchup.
unbeknownst to me, DH ALSO added more paprika and brown sugar.
so the color was dark burnt orange like but it tasted too sweet for me....we'll try next week without the sugar! thanks

Honey makes my chulent dark. If I leave it out and just put ketchup it stays lighter.

Two secret weapons:
- Guiness (or any similar dark beer)
- Kal Kugel (caramelised sugar syrup, usually used for yerushalmi kugel but does the trick on cholent)
