My husband and I are both canadian and desperately want to move out of canada. We want to look for a place/job in the US but are not able to b/c of 'legal' issues....(none of us being american).
Anyone else is/was in this situation? Any solutions??? I hate the fact that I am 'forced' to live in canada!! (europe/other part of world not really an option)

Anyone know of some 'special' way of getting papers??? soooo desperate!! Exploding anger

Just need to vent-I guess..... but would love to hear any advice...!

Thanks!

Out of curiosity what dont you like about Canada. On all my visits to Montreal and Tosh, I loved it, and considered moving ...

Not to Tosh, itself, but to that vicinity...

Basically, I find the winters here extremely difficult, but even more than that it's simply that I grew up here and I just want a CHANGE!!! I'm bored of this place, don't like the community that much, and I want to try something new!!

why not stay there? I'd move there in an instant if things were different. We just dropped our health insurance after trying for 3 years to find a private plan that would take all 4 of us with pre-existing conditions for less than a gazillion a month and for that reason I'm having trouble loving America at the moment.

Frankly, I agree with TwinsMommy. Really investigate things like health insurance and health care costs.
I'm not sure what "special" means but aside from being citizens, can either of you attend graduate school here? Or invest in a business that employs Americans? If you have enough money, I think you can come and retire as self-supporting people.

There are other ways besides being born here. Although, it is very hard to immigrate to the US.

I know health-wise might be better, but I'm still dying to move somewhere 'new'!
Unfortunately, no, we are not making tons $ to help us move there.... I'm trying to find other ways???

I really wish it werent so complicated/difficult...!

Get pregnant, come to Los Angeles for "vacation" in your 9th month and have an anchor baby... the south americans and mexicans do it all the time... that's why they can't be forced to leave even after they are using up all the taxpayer $ for ER visits and welfare and extra help in schools b/c they can't speak English, OK, I'm done ranting....
Oh PS, then you can also bring all your family down to the US next!

Actually, a lot of what you wrote is false, and pretty racist.

Anchor Baby Wiki

Edit to add- Not that LA doesn't have big problems.

And OP, is school an option? Do you have degrees and can go to grad school?
Or specialised training and can work out a job transfer?

you may consider changing the title of this thread to be more specific in order to get more responses.

(wanting to move just because you're looking for something "new" is a pretty bad reason - it sounds to me like a "geographical solution" to a deeper problem. This kind of solution is usually unsuccessful, as the real problem follows you wherever you go.)

I was not born in Canada, but I grew up there and did not like it one bit.

Anyways, I made aliyah, but if that's not an option for you, you and your husband may qualify for a TN visa, depending on what your professions are. It's a 'nafta visa' which allows Mexicans and Canadians to work in the US if your profession is on their list. All you need for the visa is a job offer from a US employer.

It's not as simple as that. The child can only sponsor family members into the U.S. when he reaches the age of 21 years and only if he earns a certain amount of money.

As a Jew Israel would be the logical place to move IMO. Winters are easier and it is different.

You know, "Canada" is a kind of big area. You don't like Montreal winters? Move to Toronto (yes, there's a difference). Not mild enough still? Try Vancouver. SKIP the Maritimes, Calgary, and Winterpeg.

If you get a job in certain feilds it might be easier to get a visa. Friends of us just got a job in the US (she works for google) and they are both getting work permits.

Much of US also has bad winters, you know.

Oh, and we had a baby in the USA, it didn't make it easier for us to stay there or get benefits. (well, we didn't try)
