My DD just started on adderall about a month ago, and the doctor upped the dosage a couple of weeks ago. She has gotten a bad canker sore, and it seems the adderall might be behind it. Has anyone else had this experience? If so, what medication did the trick?

Canker sores are caused by a strain of Herpes virus, so it's probably coincidence. 90% of the people in the US have it, so she could have gotten it from a relative's kiss (nothing creepy), or sharing a lolly pop with a friend.

Give her lots of L-Lycine vitamins. You can get them at any health food store, and they're cheap. 1000mg a day for three days, and then 500mg a day regularly will keep them from coming back. Once you get the virus, you'll always have it, and it can get triggered by stress, hormones or the flu. If it does come back, go back up to 1000mg until it goes away.

If the sore hurts really bad, grind up a tablet, make a paste with some water, and place it right on the sore. The pain will go away immediately. Don't let her lick it, it tastes HORRIBLE!
