I usually dump the water in the toilet and leave the mop in the bucket, but after cleaning a smelly bathroom, I don't want to leave the mop like that or my kitchen will smell next time I mop it.
I've been trying to rinse it and dump in the bucket or sink but it's so awkward and complicated.
So, how do you clean your mop after use????

I don't know what kind of mop you use. drying it upside down can be beneficial, that way it doesn't sit in nasty water. I have a rag mop with a machine washable head. that works nicely. if that's not an option, drying it upside down in front of a sunny window should help.

Yes, definitely get one of the removable rag mops. The one by scotch brite is great. I wash it in the machine after each use.
Otherwise, wash with solution and rinse well in the bathroom sink until water runs clean, then squeeze out, and hang stick on a hook or turn upside down to dry.

Yes mops are verrry annoying. I try my best to rinse it off in the sink after I clean and hang it upside down to dry so it wont smell. Also my heads come off and are washable.

I have 2 types of mops.
1. I think it's called a magic mop, blue flat sponge attached by velcro, comes off and I put it in the washer and dryer.
2. Deck brush that I use with a towel over it (towel stays on cuz I poke a hole thru it - slide it down mop stick). I take off the towel after mopping and put it in the washing machine. The deck brush I let dry upside down outside or in my broom closet. It's stiff bristles, not that absorbent so it doesn't take long to dry.

Don't mean to high jack, but ra_mom could you maybe post a link to the Scotch Brite mop you're talking about? Or maybe just explain what a "rag mop" means...is that the stringy kind or one that has a cloth attached at the bottom...or something else? Thanks.

Thanks all for this thread! I've had my mop for 2 years (!) and never realized the bottom came off. Threw it in the washing machine and it's like a new mop!
