I just soak them in the sink with some soap. The issue is that they discolor, I would love to find a solution. I bleach them every so often so that helps but not much.

I just wash them in the white load with hot water and detergent. I though bleach discolors the strings, but I may be wrong.

What did he do before you were married? Can he explain how?

My DH told me to gather the strings together, and put them, with I guess a bit of the corner, inside a sock, and tie the sock around the corner of the garment so the strings don't come out. (leaving the garment part regular) Then just put them in with the white load, on a low temp/cold wash. Hang dry (I assume that's obvious)
My dh's tzitzis are wool, with the black stripes, but shouldn't make a difference if they're cotton (unless perhaps the temp can be higher)

I thought that throwing them in the wash ruins the stings. Never heard anything about bleach doing that.

I put tzistzis in a stocking bag in a cold wash. When I hang it dry I un-knot (how ever it is spelled) the strings.

I gather the strings wrap a white hair band around them all. Put the Tzit Tzit in a net bag and then wash them in the washing machine. When I take them out I take of the band and leave to dry on a hanger.

Before I wash, I gather all the strings of each tallit katan and tie in one big knot. As soon as the load is finished, I easily open that knot and just pull the strings gently to straighten. Hang to dry.
