I usually have irregular periods, but since I started going to the gym about 4 times per week, they have become more regular and a bit lighter. Is this a known phenomenon?

Yes.
One of the first things recommended to me to regulate cycles was diet and exercise.
When you have healthy habbits your whole body works better.

I have always been irregular, but I was wondering if this is the answer to why I get my period when I start doing exercise again, ( I'm the on and off exercise type) . I delay exercising because each time I am afraid it will cause me to get my period and become a niddah.
Has anyone had this?
Any advice?

Exercise balances hormones, for sure. If I understand correctly, it helps dumps excess estrogen. It also increases testosterone just a bit, which increases libido.
