I met a woman today who works as a hearing officer for the NYC Dept. of Education. She has the job of firing untenured teachers.

She told me that she is instructed to always take the principals' side. She and the other hearing officers fire 4 untenured teachers a week.

She says principals don't have it easy. She knows that one-third of them are fired each year.

With regard to tenured teachers, she told me the first time they have a U-Rating hearing, they usually get their jobs back with a fine. After the second hearing, they are usually fired.

What's so bad about it? People who are being fired most likely have had major issues and aren't good teachers. I know people who were arrested (for an incident on vacation) and when came back to school were not allowed to teach but sat for about 3 months before they were allowed back. They were paid the entire time. Why and How can someone get a U rating TWICE????

If someone is given a U rating they are automatically given extra help by the principal or vp or whatever to improve.

Some people are not meant to be teachers.
