Walking Through Rain on a Tuesday Evening

The rain is hammering on windows;
The wind is rushing and blowing.
I am wondering how I will manage
To get to where I am going.

My umbrella is long gone and destroyed,
The stroller is soaked under plastic
That’s blowing away and refuses to stay
When the wind comes in gushes fantastic.

My baby is screaming and yelling;
He wants to go inside to stay,
But we have to go pick up the children
Who are finishing school for the day.

My shoes; they are squelching and squishing;
There are rivers inside them, I know.
As I step into puddles that are ankle deep
That are forming wherever I go.

I can’t wait to get home and take off
My wet coat and clothing and shoes,
As my wet children all gather around me
To tell me their tidbits of news.

Sometime I take it for granted,
But I remember today as I roam,
How cozy it is to be warm and dry
And there’s really no place like home.
