I have a lot of shmurah matza leftover from Pesach. Has anyone saved it for the following year? I wonder what will happen if I save it? It's already stale when we eat it the first Pesach Smile It's just so expensive, I'd prefer to use it again next year than nosh it or give it away. It is several hundred dollars worth. TIA.

We used sealed boxes of machine matzoh a year later and it tasted fine. I don't think it would work for the hand matzoh though

Sure you can save it. Just put each box in a bag. Next year before using it just place the matzah in the oven on a cookie sheet for about 20 minutes. It will be fresh and crispy.

We do this before each meal on pesach. (except on shabbos chol hamoed).

You will have to be quite sure it has no bugs, and it might.

Consider: you supported the men who make it. A good thing.

You can sell them (many people use Shmurah Matzah all year because they have intolerance to yeast). Either way there is a Chassidishe Kapeida not to use Matzah from the year before (but ask your LOR for his opinion).

My parents do it almost every year. The matzah is fine, just put it in the oven for a bit. My mom also uses leftover matzah to make matzah meal in the food processor, and then she double wraps it and puts it in the freezer for the next year.

We've been doing this is my house for years. We love challenging ourselves to try and figure out which was last years matzah and which was the "fresh" matzah. No one can ever tell

How do you save it to prevent bug infestation? Large ziploc bags enough to keep out bugs?

We often do this. Put in a bag and keep in the pantry. No problem.

What’s a kapeida?? And I’d like to know more about this, DH is chassidish and he never heard of it

We don’t use matzah from during the year (not made for pesach), because it’s not kosher l’pesach to make sure there is no chametz. I wonder if that is what she means.

Probably a הקפדה, a strigency. It might not be common to all chassidishe groups.

I store machine matza from year to year. Inside a sealed plastic bag, in the Pesach oven, which itself is sealed. I've never had a bug issue, and the matza tastes fine.

I've wrapped unopened matza very well and stored in the freezer (I'm in Israel)
Not a problem at all.

Now this is interesting, I've never heard people who don't use matzah from the previous year. Could you elaborate?
Is this hekpeida only for matza or also for other items?

We left it in a closed "sealed" box one year and it got bugs. I'd eat it throughout the year and preferably finish it sooner rather than later.

I thought it was not allowed to keep matza from one year to the next, that it stopped being kosher le pessach after one year?

Are you in Israel? Where did you store it? In the pantry or fridge/freezer?

Surprised by all the answers.

We didn't intentionally save matzah from last year yet we had 8 boxes left on the pesach shelf this year. Well. We tried. (Hand made shmura)
Fail.
Texture was ok. Aftertaste. Nasty

In Israel. On top of our Pesach closet in the salon (living room). This was a mistake.

In freezer it will be fine. You know how hot in becomes close to the ceiling (heat rises) once the A/C is off?
