Help me tweak this brisket recipe

I have a brisket recipe that's simpler than simple- all it requires is sprinkling the meat with salt and pepper, pouring beer into the pan, and baking covered for a long time at a low temp. It tastes good but a little bit boring. How can I tweak it to give it a better taste?
