I have a big belly but I'm not pregnant. All the gowns I try are too revealing and make me look fat. I'm looking for looser fits. Going up a size or 2 doesn't really solve the problem. Any ideas as regards flattering styles are welcome.

The fit and flare styles that are everywhere now are very flattering, especially if you get one with a waistband.

High-waisted fit-and-flare! I have a tummy myself and I love that style. You will look great!

I find draped or ruched work well for me. Fit and flares or peplum tend to emphasize my belly fat....

I find that two piece gowns are more flattering than one piece.

If you have any links to styles, feel free to post them
I wouldn't mind wearing a shell under a gown if the whole outfit would look put together and not like I just put a t-shirt under a gown to make it tznius because I absolutely had to have this dress or it's the only thing half way decent I could find.

One more great secret is a corset...the most uncomfortable one you can find that will really pull you in. For one night you can do it
Just make sure it doesn't make your back fat roll over the top, you want the longest one you can find.

OP, I have exactly the same problem. It is interesting that people are saying empire waist or a high waist because I found that those gowns give more emphasis to my stomach making ppl think I am pregnant.
Now that I have kids and a stomach stretched that wont go away--I dont know what to wear to my sister's wedding--like op you said it! Gowns are not made for ppl. with stomachs !
For someone like me who is not fat except for my pregnant looking stomach, Two pc. gowns or bigger sizes just make me look fat!! I was thinking that if I could find a sleeveless gown with a very low waist --that is loose by the waist--with a ball gown type of bottom, I would really like to wear that. Then, wearing that with a shell, makes a lot of ppl. look skinner (like a lot of frum women wearing shells with short sleeve....). However, I have never seen gowns like that!!
Good luck!!

I have the same issue, all of my weight is in my stomach, so I have to be very careful with gowns otherwise I look pregnant or just huge. I have this dress in black, but I have seen them in every colour. its super flattering and looks pretty good with a complementary shell underneath.

This one is amazing! I put a black shell underneath and a long straight black slinky skirt to make it floor length. Extremely flattering. And very forgiving if I gain a few pounds. I also wear it with a below the knee length skirt for when I don't want to wear to the floor. I sometimes switch it up with a different colored shell (like burgundy) and a big glittery necklace.
Good luck!

I wear a girdle that goes from mid-thigh up to my bra. It's uncomfortable as h3ll, but it smoothes out the bulges.
I also find certain materials work better. You have to try some dresses on to see what works for you. Same goes for different styles. I'm short and fat and don't look particularly great in a gown. But I've discovered that a style with diagonal interest works ok. Google "gown with ruching on side" to see what I mean.

What about something with a wrap-style shape? The diagonal lines may distract from your mid-section.

(Okay, these are maternity dresses, but you get the idea.)
Or something like this? The bottom part is constructed of slightly stiff fabric, so it won't hug your tummy curves.
