Is it worth frying or should I start again?

It will still puff up when it hits the oil. The moisture inside will turn to steam, and make it rise just from the heat.

Sprinkle the donuts with powdered sugar. Everybody loves extra sugar! Very Happy

probably too late but I would say the opposite. dump the dough and don't bother frying. I've tried it before and they came out dense and not the right taste or texture.

I would also dump it and start anew. But that's my advice based on cooking shows, not actual experience.

I decided to fry them. They were no good I had to throw them out.

Sad Sorry to hear that. I had figured it was at least worth a try.

what I would have done was to buy more yeast ... perhaps the other yeast was not good ... then mix it with a little water or oil into the doughnut dough & let it rise

I also did. Next year I'm going to do a cake batter donut without yeast.

also make sure not to use hot water with yeast - people often make this mistake - better too cool than too warm
