I dont know exact amount but probably about 150 for shabbos.
My grocery shopping for the week is probably an additional 250.
So thats 400 a week.
How is it so much? Beats me. Were not fancy people.

Probably $200 each Shabbat. Though we do eat a lot of the leftovers for Sunday dinner and will have fruit and other stuff left over. We spend more when we have more guests.

2 adults 2 kids.

1 large challah and 2 small - $10
Cake - $10
2 slices salmon fillet - $7
Soup (made with chicken bottoms and bones 4 weeks at a time) - $3
Tomato dip homemade - $1
Meat - $20

So that's about $40? Round up to $50 to include partial grape juice, the occasional potato kugel etc.?

We don't do six course meals.

My weekly grocery averages about $120. I don't skimp on food. I buy chicken, meat for Shabbos, nosh etc. Sometimes $150, sometimes $90, so the average is about $120. Yom tov time $200.

Do you have salad? What about all the veggies for the soup?
What do you eat shabbos day?

If I'm hosting, probably the most I spend on food that is ONLY for Shabbat is maybe $60? Maaaaaaaybe $80? Never more than $100. And I made a lot of food. Very Happy

I don't buy pre-made food, and I don't serve big fancy expensive red meat.

If it's just the two of us, the cost is so small that I'd have a hard time quantifying it. It's no more than a normal meal, then, other than the challah (but I usually make my own, which costs pennies).

I think there is confusion. People are saying shabbos costs that much not their food for the whole week.

I live in toronto and all the prices that are mentioned are way way less than what things cost here. ie. chicken, fish, vegetables EVERYTHING!

things cost a fortune here!

We spend anywhere from $30-$150 (higher end only if we're hosting). If it's just us, we can get by pretty cheaply because we eat pretty healthily/ non-patchke (some rolls, chicken, vegetables, soup, maybe a starch, done!).

But, where we live has CRAZY expensive kosher food so when we host a meal or two, we can end up spending closer to $150+. But again, that's including some pre-made stuff (challah, dessert...)

My question is why is this turning into a competition of who can spend less? If we spend within our means, who cares Question Question

It's really easy. If you buy some kugels, cut fruit and veggies, meat, desserts and challah plus dairy products etc from the kosher store it's so easy to get to 200. I cannot comprehend 50 tbh.

I posted before that I spend about 50 on shabbos - two adults and a toddler

Wine 7 dollars
Grape juice (for me shabbos morning) - 1.50 dollar (either get the small one if on sale or a bigger one for more money, but I use it few weeks)
Some fruits/veg $5
Cholet meat 5.50 (I don't buy expensive type)
potatoes/beans $1-2
I work full time and don't have time to cook, so I buy from the grocery right before shabbos when everything is half off so it doesn't cost more then me making it - Whole chicken ($4.50) Liver (2.75) Kishka (1.50) 2 types of kugels ($5) 1 side dish (2.50) soup (4) fish (6)
I also buy stuff for one side dish (5). I like to at least make one thing home made that my family likes
Cake and challah I take from the freezer (4-5 dollars?)
I think that's about $50.
The long shabbosim though would cost a drop more bec I would need to make Shalosh Seudis
(plus I always have leftovers for supper, so I don't have to spend on supper)

Just curious after reading the thread about how much people spend on groceries during the week. It seemed to be about 150-200 but does that include Shabbos? I feel like I spend almost that much just for Shabbos... (depending if we have guests or not) otherwise this is just for 2 people.

My husband insists to not keep track of Shabbos expenditures because it isn't counted in the amount Hashem set aside for us for the year.

When it comes to everything else, he does keep track.

We are a family of 6 and almost always have guests for at least 1 meal. We spend between $100 - $150 depending on the week and specific menu. We usually have 1 to 2 meals with leftovers from shabbos as well.
