yes I've bought Ipads on amazon.
Once, I bought a refurbished tablet on amazon. When I turned it on it had someone elses information on - their email, twitter and other accounts.  I contacted that person and told her I had bought a tablet with her info on. She responded that her tablet had crashed one day so she returned it to amazon. Next thing I know amazon contacted me asking me to return the tablet, and they would refund me not only what I had paid, but the price of a brand new, 3g model of that tablet. (2 or 3 times what I had spent!)

I bought from abt. They are based in Chicago and so I paid no sales tax. Shipping was free and it arrived promptly
No reason not to buy from any reptiable source as you are relying on Apple of there are issues. This as my third iPad and when it went dead during the warranty period, Apple replaced it without any issues.
