Wondering if anybody knows if an airline ticket was purchased with an Amex card, does it automatically include travel insurance.

I am not sure. I know dh researched cards and used Chase Ink, I actually got an email from them after my purchase detailing the insurance information.
Please note that this does not include medical. If you travel out of the country I strongly suggest you purchase insurance, it isnt that expensive.

No I don't believe that AmEx gives free travel insurance, though you could always call them to verify. I believe I once read that Chase Sapphire is the best card to use to buy airplane tickets because they give some sort of coverage, but I don't know any details.

Some credit cards will cover the cost of the ticket if you can't fly for a medical reason. Buy actual medical for your trip is not included. Bit it shouldn't be a lot of money
