I think it may be more of a Hungarian minhag? I know that Gerrer women don't go unless their mothers are not Ger from home and go.

I went last night for the first time.
it was actually quite funny. The mikva door was wide open and tens of women were waiting together. It's usually such a private place, our mikvah Lady makes sure to schedule the appointments that no one should ever meet.

I also have never heard of women toivelling on Erev Yk.
What happens at these mikvas when a woman really needs to toivel that night?

Women usually toivel the day of erev yom kippur, starting from 6am.
Those mikvaos that open in the evening for this only use one of bor for erev yom kippur toiveling and the rest of the mikvahs pools are used by the women who come for tehara toiveling.

curious - do you all dip at the same time like the men, where you each see each other? Or is there a ML who lets all in one by one?

My mikvah schedules this from 8am-11am today, no appt necessary. Not at night as to not interfere.
Mikvah lady said a few women went the night before, but before the time of toiviling

No. We each go in separately. No mikva lady, but there is a line so when one person comes out, the next one goes in

So surprised so many of you never heard of this. I went this morning and had almost an hour wait. The lines are very long all day long.

You don't toivel erev YK. You're not going to have relations in any event.

I just read in my machzor that it's an inyan for ladies to go erev yom kippur. They listed 2 reasons.
Half the people that were at the mikva this morning were not chasidish.
The night before if a woman has to go she goes regularly as she would go any other night but if she has relations goes again the next morning for a fast dip.

what are the two reasons listed in your machine?
I'm interested because I stopped going a couple of years ago, since it always added so much pressure and anxiety to my day. Then I had a full blown panic attack while waiting in line with hundreds of other women I was uncomfortable seeing in my half dressed state (boss, principal) in the hot, steamy stuffy hallway. So I decided that my day was more spiritual when I don't go.
If one day in the future I feel that mikvah on Erev Yom Kippur is a spiritual act I want to do, I will probably do again. So I'd love to know the reasons why it is done.
