My husbands Rav/Chosson Rebbi has been helping us alot to deal with an issue these past few months. The thing is that he is a close relative of ours, is it tacky to give him $$ along with the Mishloach Manos?

I think it depends on the relationship. If someone is a rav they are most likely getting tons of gifts, many which they have no use for, so if choosing between a gift or check I would just give a check.
Or you can give 2 bottles of nice wine to use on Pesach if it is equal to the check you would have given (I know someone who gave a case of Pesach wine their rav uses instead of a check)
Many rabbanim receive checks on Purim and it is part of what supports them.
