We both come from dysfunctional homes. Trying to build a functional home.
Should we buy a safe box? What do you keep there?
How do you decide what to keep home and what to keep in the bank?
Where do you keep your important documents?
Is there a special spot for home office work?
Sorry for the ramble

First of all, scan all important documents and store in the cloud (Microsoft OneDrive is good or Dropbox).
Then either get a safe deposit box in a bank or buy a fireproof safe for your home.
Birth certificates, social security cards, marriage prenup, marriage license, car title, apartment lease.
Passports -- keep at home in a safe place.

We have a lock box in a bank - got it as a promotion. Mainly keep in there car title - could probably move it to house safe.
Small house fire proof safe anchored to the wall - jewelry, passports, SS cards, marriage certificate.
Should probably keep birth certificates there but those I keep near the desk - I seem to be needing them more often for school paperwork.
We have a filing cabinet where we store all papers needed for taxes + manual and receipts and warranties for large purchases.

We don't have one and neither did our parents. Should we get one?
