We are in beginning stages of considering a big move.
Do you live in Baltimore or Philly and would be willing to share knowledge re expenses, housing and schools? I want to be a stay at home mom, so if you are as well, that would be extra helpful.
Thanks!

I live in Baltimore, it is now one of the largest 'OOT' communities. Kosher groceries are more expensive here, but there are so many other grocery stores that you can really shop around for good deals in the big stores. Re housing, I would recommend anyone moving here to rent for a few months while they get to know the community so they can decide what area they want to buy in.
Re schools, what kind of school are you looking for? then I can help you from there....

I live in Northeast Philly. Rent for my 4 bedroom home is $1500 a month. Schools for two school age kids is approx $650 a month (We get some EITC- the tax credit/voucher system in PA). I have found groceries are decently priced here in the local shoprite which has a kosher experience. (Chicken Legs 2.49 a lb, cutlets 5.99) Some people like to go to Lakewood (an hour and 10 minute drive) to stock up on certain items. Their are a nice bunch of warm stay at home moms. Schools have free busing, free hot school lunches.

Are the people nice? Is it a warm welcoming community?

Chabad school |
Baltimore is full of nice people! There is a Chabad school but I don't know what grade it goes up to. There are a few Chabad kids in my granddaughter's Montessori elementary class.

There is a chabad school. Boys preschool-8th, and girls preschool-4th. Many families send to the other schools here too.
I think the people here are very nice, of course there are going to be the people who are not so friendly and welcoming, but in general Baltimore is a warm and accepting place. I seriously recommend you rent at first so you can get to know the different areas and then decide where you feel you would fit in the best. Baltimore is extremely diverse.
