I'm looking for a recipe for potato knishes, but without puff pastry dough. If someone could post it, I would really appreciate it.

Do you have the Spice & Spirit cookbook? I used to make the potato knish recipe from there & it was good.... If you don't have it, I can try to type up the recipe for you, if you'd like.

there is a problem with using challa dough, because it is hamoitsi. unless you put in juice instead of water (then it will be mezonos)

Sorry, I didn't phrase myself clearly. I meant without any dough at all, to make the prep. easier. I know people make them like that, but no idea where to get a recipe.

not if you are eating them as part of the seudah. or you are eating less than a kezayis.
I didn't make this up, my friend does this and her husband sits on the beis din.

Wait, I'm confused... you want a no-dough potato knish recipe?
Isn't that just going to be mashed potatoes?
But thanks for giving me a Rosh haShanah menu idea

Ahh, you're looking for a recipe without any dough at all. Here's a recipe from the Bobov cookbook. (I haven't actually tried this one, but any recipe I've made from this cookbook is always good.)
Different Potato Knishes
1 c. mashed potatoes
1 egg
2 T. margarine
1 small onion
salt & pepper
flour
1 egg & sesame seeds for topping
Saute onion in oil, then combine the rest of the ingredients. Add just enough flour to make a dough-like consistency - not too much flour!
Form into oval patties & place on greased cookie sheet. Brush patties with an egg & sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake at 350 for 1 hour or until golden brown.

I guess you could put it that way. They aren't fried though...

Thank you very much, greeneyes!
Kmelion - if you like the frozen potato knishes they sell at the grocery store, then you should like these, too. I know we used to buy them, but they're expensive, so I figured it shouldn't be too hard to make myself.

I'd put kasha prepared according to the box mixed with some sauteed onions.
