DD is going to Israel from the US for the next six months. Is it better for her to bring a debit card or credit card for expenses? Any opinions about which cards are best? She will use this for cash as well as purchases.

With a debit card, you can put in the money as allowance and the she cannot spend more than what's on the bank. But if the card has fees it makes sense to take out a few hundred shekel at a time. Instead of twenty here and there

If she uses a credit card, pick one that doesn't charge money changing fees. Like Amazon.

Get a credit card without a foreign transaction fee and accumulate good points or cash back.
MOST places in Israel take american credit cards. like 99.9%. Always good to have a bit of cash on hand though, keep that in mind.

Most debit cards and credit cards will charge you a fee for using internationally, so check with both before traveling. Capitàlone 360 has a debit cards for kids that doesn't charge any extra fees. My kids use their debit card from capitàlone 360 when outside of US. There is no fees. They can take out cash or use it as CC. I think Charles Schwab was another bank that doesn't charge fees while traveling internationally.

The Costco cash card has no foreign transaction fee

The chase sapphire preferred is not free after the first year, also has no foreign transaction fee. You can sign up and then downgrade the card to one of their no annual fee cards once she’s done her six months in Israel.
