I actually know people who prefer gifts. And they are in chinuch. Teachers / Rebbes. They appreciate gifts.
So perhaps she knows this rebbe and his family. And their preference would be a gift. We can’t always extrapolate from our own experience. In either direction.
OP was specific about it being a gift. Lets respect her. |
Is it respectful to not inform the op that her idea of a gift would be less appreciated? Op doesn't want to give a gift if it won't be appreciated. this is about her wanting to show the rebbe how much she cares. So I am showing up respect by helping her in that goal.

Really don’t understand this.
I liked all the posts that suggested money/ check. I agree. And I think OP heard that message loud and clear.
Yet, OP reiterated that she wants a gift. I’m pointing out that since she has heard the strong support for money/ check and still wants a gift maybe she knows the family and they are the type that would prefer a gift. Those people exist.
And we can shift gears to help her find a gift. Actually I cant since I’m a money person and cant think of gift ideas. But hopefully others can.
I actually thought of something I’ve seen in really yeshivish circles that surprised me. An expensive bottle of whiskey/ bourban engraved with a letter of appreciation and glasses. Comes as a gift box.

I like giving something smaller (say a medium range bottle of wine) with a check. So you’re not just handing over money. But spending anything above 50 on a gift is wasteful in my opinion when most would prefer the money.

maybe you can send a check with a fruit platter for shabbos or a chocolate platter, that makes it extra special
