Please only respond if you have personal experience with a child with adhd/behavioral challenges.
How do you deal with a child who is aggressive toward his sister?
He has adhd and anxiety. Being treated by a dr.
Goes to OT for sensory etc. Spending a ton of money on treatment for him.
Sometimes he hurts her because he is angry about something, sometimes just to get a reaction.
He is almost 9, and very big and strong.
He is also extremely sensitive. Any punishment/consequence or even calm reprimanding makes him SOOOOOO mad that he goes around yelling, throwing things, destroying things, etc.

We saw a huge reduction in aggression and violence when we treated for strep and yeast. The inflammation and gut dysbiosis was causing inflammation in the brain that was causing the lack of emotional regulation and impulse control.

For my son 1) Medication and 2) being proactive. HALT is really helpful. Hungry Angry Lonely Tired. Trying to be on top of those categories reduces a lot of aggression.

Can you elaborate please?
I recently took him and my other kids for throat cultures because I see a definite correlation between worse behavior and strep in family, but all came back negative.
What specifically do you do?

Ty | DC throat cultures were also negative, but I just assumed they were having chronic strep hiding inside their tonsils or elsewhere in the body causing the inflammation and behaviors because like you I saw a clear correlation. I put dc on 6 months of augmentin (begged the dr to let me try and kept begging for refills) and then another 6 months of oil of oregano and olive leaf extract (herbal antibiotics). We used caprylic acid and probiotics to treat yeast. We also used motrin and zyrtec during flares to help lower inflammation.

I waited a looong time before medicating my son who has ADHD. Tried all sorts of other treatments, therapies, techniques...
He was having major issues socially and some behavior issues. But the biggest issue to me was his aggression towards his younger brother. Poor kid really got the brunt of things, no matter how much I tried to shield him and protect him.
Looking back, I wish I'd medicated earlier. After I finally did (due to the son with ADHD having major social issues that led to him thinking that the world was out to get him and everyone hated him -- unfortunately, not so far off the mark), I finally gave in and agreed to a trial of medication. It was like night and day. HE was so much happier, and obviously everyone around him was too.
His relationship with his brother took years to repair. BH they're now teenagers and I almost want to cry when I see them doing normal "brother" things. The younger one is still very tentative and anxious, especially around his older brother, even though there haven't been any major issues between them in years. The younger one also has a lot of anxiety, and while it's possible that he would have struggled with it anyway, I can't help but believe that it was triggered or exacerbated by being his older brother's punching bag for so long when he was young

Which brands did you use and how much a day for the supplements? Is it worth trying without the doctors antibiotics?

We used Gaia phytocaps for the oil of oregano and olive leaf extract. 1 cap of each 2 or 3 times a day. Dye free motrin once or twice a day and zyrtec once a day for up to 2 weeks at a time.

How much motrin? the full dose for their weight? Is there a dr that guides in this?

Not sure it’s best to pump these medications into a kid’s body and following this inflammation trend. It’s really not safe or smart. Definitely consult a doctor don’t give anything based on what an anonymous person on the internet said.

A pandas specialist told us about motrin and anti histamines for flares.

Thank you. What about the caprylic acid and probiotics which ones did you use for those?

Olive leaf and oil of oregano work for yeast too, so to start with you should be fine with those. For probiotics, we did a specific friendly yeast strain called saccaromyces boulardii.
Just be aware that you may see a worsening at first. This may be die off. There are things you can do to support the body through this.
Also, start low and slow.

I really appreciate it. I will give it a try. Hopefully, I can be consistent for a few months!

Probiotics should be given 2 hours away from “killers”.
