I'm getting a shopping day out tomorrow and I want to use it wisely so where is the best place to go for the best selection and prices within an hour drive from Brooklyn? (Mainly for clothes for myself and dd)

Go to Syms in Lower Manhattan. It's only one store but they have tons of stuff and great prices. You can go to the Jewish Heritage Museum next door with all the time you'll save not having to drive to NJ, and have lunch there with all the money you'll save.

It costs about $18 each way for tolls alone from Brooklyn. Maybe you should organize a carpool.

The problem with Shorthills Mall is that it is in a L shape. Garden State Plaza is a square so if you are on one side then you don't have to walk all the way to the other side just to get to one store. And Garden State Plaza and Riverside Square mall has every store that Short Hills has plus more plus you have Century and Off Fifth in between those two malls along with Daffy's and Loehmann's.

It also has VERY expensive stores - not the place to bargain shop - although nice to window shop

try kings plaza mall you can go by car-they have parking or by 60th street bus, it takes you right to the door but it takes 50 minutes and b car it takes half the time.
you can try century 21 on 86th street or fulton street mall in downtown which you can go by train easily.
