I don’t see why there needs to be a connection. I still wouldn’t dress my kids as pigs no matter how crazy the world has become!

Just because there are worse things doesn't normalize things that are questionable or wrong.
For example, stealing is still bad, even if murder is objectively worse. Saying someone is commiting a worse crime, that there are worse things that you could be doing, doesn't make it okay.
(Just a mashal, not saying dressing a kid in a pig costume is like stealing ch"v)
