There’s no way to defray paying taxes if you’re selling stocks

And if you’re taking cash into your pocket after selling real estate, you need to pay taxes on that as well. The only way to not pay taxes on real estate is if you roll it over within a short timeframe into a 1031 investment. But you might be better off waiting for a good investment when the time is right and just paying the taxes
