Whatever he does don’t let him become a photographer. It’s a murderous backbreaking job and extremely stressful on every level. Plus, crazy hours.

There’s a reason there’s a shortage.

I know a bunch of frum woman photographers who love it and make a lot of money.

A lot of places let you put in extra hours to be able to leave early on Friday. I work until 2 or 3 on Fridays but I always work 40 hours per week.

So either way, full time is full time. It doesn't matter if it's a woman working those hours or men. I don't see the argument that a man deserves a higher salary because he is working full time, as though no women ever do. It's hours based, not gender. And plenty of women do work a 40 hour week, even after having kids.

I would look on LinkedIn and indeed and apply for jobs in marketing, design, media its a huge huge industry that is only going to grow more. We are doing a new website for my business and the quotes we got made me fall over but people pay this for good service. A friend of mine got a great job on LinkedIn as a marketing director for a big company and works 100% remote.

I think your better off not working for frum people. I have seen enough of my friends husbands get taken advantage of by bosses who knew they were desperate and not skilled enough to really be able to up and quit. There are those that will exploit weakness. Those in my circles who have either a practical degree, a trade or a serious set of skills don't get pushed around. Because you can always find something else and your boss knows it.

For me the pendulum swung from pro college to anti to somewhere in the middle assuming you can take on as little debt as you are able by using your local community college/state programs etc. I think private college is a waste of money. But there are practical degrees you can do that give you more protection that you will always have a job.

I can't keep track of all the amothers. Are you from Lakewood?

98% of women start off 9-5 but within 5/6 years have cut their hours to 9-3, 10-3 in Lakewood.
That's is fact.

Men do not cut their hours like that. There's literally no such expectation.

Which is why it's always surprising to me that Lakewood companies prefer woman who WILL cut their hours as opposed to men, who may be will to increase their hours down the road.

Women can just get the job done! Some men can also but it’s not as common as with women.

I’m so sorry op. I was out of work for almost five months this year and it was horribly stressful. We’re middle-aged with lots of tuitions to pay and other expenses.

What I found was that people didn’t want to hire me when I was out of work. When I created an LLC and changed my resume to reflect that I was working for myself (and no gap in my employment history), I started getting job offers BH.

Does he have references that will rave about him? I found that really made a difference too. I coached my references on what to say.

Wishing you tons of hatzlocha, op!!

Unless your dh can get a degree like PA or accounting, the only way for a man to make real money is to go out on his own. Otherwise he’s working for someone else who went out on his own.
For those saying the women make tons of money for no hours, it’s good money for those hours but that same salaryvwould not be as much as you want and need your dh to make.

Just sending hugs and agreeing that the dismal job market for men in Lakewood is an issue that has been swept under the rug. While women can work 9-2 and make a decent salary for those hours, there is a severe lack of available job options for men. My husband has been working for 5 years at a job. He started entry level and has worked his way up but is still making less than 50k a year. He recently went back to school for his masters but is still looking for a new job.

I dont understand this. My dds job right out of sem w no skills was $25 an hour. Thats $50k at 40 hrs per week. She started last year. Shes working in AP.

can he prepare customized videos etc for the dream company[ies] he wants to work for and send it as a resume? I'd only do that after I check if the business can afford to pay him [look up online records]

does he showcase his talent anywhere? meaning does he have his own landing page with samples of his work and than he places that link at the bottom of every email?

can he start pitching his services to businesses instead of seeking employment?

Exactly! It doesn't make sense. He started 5 years ago at $17 an hour and has slowly worked his way up but is still not making $25 an hour like your daughter who is working an entry-level job. For whatever reason, the job opportunities for girls right out of seminary are plentiful but the jobs for able-bodied, hardworking, honest men are few and far between.

I work for someone who is convinced if he hires a man they will take his customers and compete against him so he will only hire women. I think its irrational but so be it. I'm starting to wonder if that's why men in Lakewood have such a hard time. Maybe he is not the only one who thinks that way.
