My teenager has watery diarrhea 3-4 times a day. Sometimes vomiting. I took her to doctor who send us to ER. She was dehydrated badly. At ER they told us the white blood count is high and she tested positive for RSV in nose. She lost around 25lb. And her iron went down because she doesn’t eat well due to this.
This has gone on and off for last 2 months. Since she first got something like Covid/flue. She gets IV fluids. Feels better. Then cycle restarts.
What can this be. Any other solution. Doctor states it will pass on its own.

Can it hazvahalila be something more serious than doctor/ ER diagnosed.

Please help me. I am loosing my mind.
Any Gastroenterologist you recommend in Brooklyn area?
Thankyou

2 months for flu/rsv recovery sounds long.

I've used Dr. Gary Gettenberg, but not recently.

Good luck

Was she on antibiotics? Did they do a stool sample for something like C diff?

We face something different, but also the dehydration was the biggest immediate issue.

You need to be very on top of hydration. First of all, start with a good hydration solution. Something with the proper balance of electrolytes. You can buy it or make it yourself. Then, she's got to take an ounce or more every half hour. You can get a fancy water bottle to help. You can give her a straw. You can do whatever it takes. But that's got to be number one.

Hopefully you'll find answers. Meanwhile this is what you can do.

No they didn’t check her stool. I asked dr to send me referral to lab. He said it’s not necessary

I asked for antibiotics in ER. They said she doesn’t need it. It’s viral.

Chrohns and colitis aren’t gluten allergies. Did they do any blood work to test for any of them? There doesn’t need to be a family history for her to develop any of those.

I asked them to check but they said they don’t do specific blood test unless indicated. They only check general cbc and metabolic panel

I’d push the doctor for it. Can’t hurt to try at this point. And often a stomach bug/ food poisoning/ shigella needs antibiotics to heal.

My son had those signs and was diagnosed with Crohns. No family history at all. Had anemia. Lost weight. Dehydrated. Get an diff dr asap. Ask for stool sample for sedimentation rate, and C-reactive protein level in blood. Also check for c-diff in stool. But note that it’s not common for ppl to just get c-diff without underlying problems.

As other suggested I would take her to a GI but if you can’t get in so fast you can start by having the pediatrician order the labs.
