...you know, that article about someone dying and you just are glad it didn't happen to your family.

Like the story of the 90 year old Alzheimer patient who wandered away from home late one night and was found the next day in a nearby canal.....so sad. Glad it didn't happen to my family.

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/ne.....story

This time it did. This is my Uncle Joe, my Grandmothers baby brother.

BDE

I am so sad, and scared. While I didn't know him that well, and cannot honestly grieve for him, I am afraid this news will just about kill my grandmother, who is in frail health already.

It is sad, but the question remains: How much pain can a person with Alzheimer's feel?

As sad as it is, it would be worse for a person with an intact brain and full awareness to have undergone such an ordeal - the fear, and knowing that death is imminent.

Boruch Dayan Haemes, but please feel better knowing that this person did not have much pain.

As far as I know (and I know quite a bit) Alzheimer's doesn't prevent people from feeling pain. If anything, they go through the torturous feeling of not knowing where they are or what to do. Plus, this is not just about the pain of the niftar (which, in any case, is over now) but about the living people who care about him.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

May Hashem grant you and your family members the wisdom on how to deal with this news regarding your grandmother. And may Hashem send you and your family comfort.

And I also apologize for any dumb, stupid, insensitive things that not-thinking posters may have posted. I just feel that someone has to apologize for it.
