This. Once there was a blackout in middle of the night Friday night. I woke up DH and the kids woke up because we were fumbling around trying to see what was going on, and we all sat on the couch for an hour, listening to our own breathing, until the power came back on.

Yup! But now I am used to sleeping in the dark b/c of DH, so when he is away, and I have to sleep with a light on, I have a hard time with it!

I use to be afraid till well after I had children, that and loud noises. I still fear loud noises.

I don't think people need to be ashamed of their fears; just accept them as part of you, try and work around them and love yourself as you are. Sometimes I think the way to conquer a fear is to accept it and not worry about it, because I think part of the emotional build up is the denigration of ourselves for feeling that way in the first place.

Never used to be, in fact I couldnt fall asleep if a bit light came through, even lights from the clock kept me up. Up until about few months ago, I am now TERRIFIED from pitch dark. My daughter is too. And she dislikes loud noises. To thatgirl; I had a classmate in elementery school who when would be so scared of thundering and lightning, to the affect that the teachers had to calm her... Every single time to this day, years later, when thundering and lightning outside, I think of her.... Wink

as a kid I was petrified of the dark... my parents hated that I needed a light on--running up the electric bill... These days I need TOATL DARKNESS.
Even a small stream of light under the bathroom door makes me crazy.
Go figure??!!

I get scared if I let my mind wander and think about scary situations, bad childhood dreams, or if I just had a nightmare.
If I am home alone there is no way I am sleeping without the lamp on!

I much prefer absolute darkness to just a hint of light or seeing fuzzy things out the window.

As a kid, I never had "robber" or "lion" fears, it was always Morlocks and Martians...
